Dawn Gavin
Dawn Gavin serves as the Dean of Undergraduate Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and is a tenured faculty member in SAIC’s Department of Contemporary Practices. Prior to her appointment at SAIC, Gavin served concurrently as the Chair of Visual Arts, Chair of the Department of Art, and Chair of the Foundations Program at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington.
A practicing interdisciplinary artist, Gavin’s mixed-media work examines such subjects as loss, appropriation, identity, and displacement. She has exhibited her work extensively both nationally and internationally, and received her BA in Fine Art Drawing and Painting in 1991, an MFA in Fine and Public Art in 1992, and an MSc in Electronic Imaging in 2006, all from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design at the University of Dundee, Scotland.
